New Location

We have moved from our old home at the Tithe Barn to a new home.  Relocation of the Museum to the Heritage Centre during the winter of 2005/6 proved very successful and has received many favourable comments from the wider museum community in Dorset and beyond.

The transfer was made possible through Heritage Lottery Funding, secured by the Purbeck District Council and the County Museums Advisor.

Construction and display work was undertaken entirely by museum volunteers.

This new prime location on the seafront has greatly generated vastly increased visitor numbers, together with the recruitment of many new members and additional counter helpers.

Local Studies

Our Local Studies Centre, here in the museum and at our second venue, Marine Villas, on Swanage Pier, offers a source of original and facsimile material for study and research.

From tracing your own Family History to finding out about Smuggling in Purbeck we welcome your interest in using and helping to develop this facility.
