Swanage Museum has 3 separate locations.  The Museum is to be found at The Square, next to the seafront.  We have a Local Studies Centre at Marine Villas on Swanage Pier.  Finally we have a purpose built controlled storage facility.  

Disabled Access. The Heritage Centre where the Museum is situated has wheelchair access.
Marine Villas has limited access, alternative arrangements for viewing material can be arranged.
Access to our store is limited. Arrangements can be made to view artefacts.

Members researching at the Local Studies Centre

The Local Studies Centre offers a source of original and facsimile material for study and research.

If you would like to research your own family or your house and it's history.  If you are interested in the local history of Swanage and Purbeck, we welcome your interest in using and developing this unique facility.

We aim to be a community museum and encourage community involvement.

The Local Studies Centre is open throughout the year.  Access is by appointment only.

Friends of Swanage Museum

If you are interested in becoming a 'Friend of Swanage Museum' it only costs £5 per person per annum, or £30 per person for a life membership is excellent value .

Membership entitles you to our newsletters and concessions to many of our events throughout the year.

Leaflets are available at the Museum or contact the Membership Secretary at the address at the top of the page. (see download link below to print out membership form.)

The Collection

We are always interested in the acquisition or loan of suitable archive material and can offer safe storage for original items .

We offer a printing service for printed and photographic material.

The Museum runs various events during the year.  We have monthly talks and during the season two local authors lead walks around the town on a weekly basis. (weather permitting)

We are involved with other local history organisations and the Museum is a member of the Purbeck Museums group.
